Sunday Dinner

Growing up I remember after church all the family would meet at my grandmother's house for lunch. After eating all the kids would hang out together. If it was raining we would usually play in the kitchen. My grandmother had a wood cook stove that she used daily. The stove was "hot" and we were told not to be around it or touch it...guess where we would play? Near the stove! I can't remember any of us getting burned. We knew it was "hot" that didn't keep us from hiding beside of it, or taking a thin piece of wood to stir in the fire.

My grandmother was observant and somewhat feisty. She knew exactly what we were doing in that kitchen. It didn't take long for her to come and scold us! Whew!

Those Sunday lunches were the "best" not exclusively because of food....it was family time and togetherness that made it good. I remember chasing chickens, petting the dog, going to the tobacco barn, peeking in the cellar "I was to afraid to go inside", playing tag, playing hide-in-go-seek, and I remember going fishing with my grandpa after lunch, I loved that he would let me hold the fishing rod. "Believe it or not" I caught several "trout" fish.

Our Sunday School Lesson today was on remembrance. I realize not all things are worthy of remembering...however, "my childhood church memories" are memory worthy. The Sunday lunch...back then it was called "dinner"... is worthy of remembering. All the "common sense" truth's that I was taught as a child are worthy of remembering.

Sunday was special as a kid. I loved going to church. Those times were notable.

Many laughs, talks, and tears experienced on that wooden church pew.

The title of our Sunday School lesson today "Nothing but the Truth" I want to be the person that shares God's truth's with others.

John 8:32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

Jesus invites ALL to come and dine. He is trustworthy! He has living water! He is the bread of life! He is truth!

John 21:12 King James Version

12 Jesus saith unto them, Come and dine. And none of the disciples durst ask him, Who art thou? knowing that it was the Lord.

John 6:35 King James Version

35 And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.

FYI-- I have a wood stove for sale if anyone is interested.
