My Squash Lesson

My son-in-law brought in seeds a few weeks ago that someone was going to throw away. I looked through the vast array of varieties and finally picked one pack. He said I don't know if they will grow because they are old....the expiration date was past.

I had a green planter outside that was sitting vacant. I decided to plant the whole pack of seeds in this planter....I said, "If they come up I'll transplant them to better ground". The first week I went and checked to see if there was any sprouts peeking through...nope not even one was visible. I immediately thought well I don't guess they are any good. Actually, I hate to admit this but I forgot about them after that.

Saturday afternoon I happened to step outside and my eye caught that planter.....to my surprise the middle was full of sprouts. Woo hoo!

I believe there is a Spiritual lesson in all things. Inside each plant seed is the embryo of a future plant. Yet if that seed isn't planted, and watered it will never grow. Eventually, the seed will die. However, if someone plants the seed, waters, fertilizes, and takes care of the seed....in time fruit will form and mature. Harvest time will come!

I want to produce fruit!

The word teaches us that the"fruit of the spirit" is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, and temperance: against such there is no law.

I want to love more, exhibit ample joy, pray daily for peace, offer unending patience [which is extremely hard], be kind, show goodness which means "strive to have uprightness of heart ---to do what is right", and have faith to believe, I'm ever learning to be less self willed "I want to put others before self" and lastly quick to listen and slow to speak.

Gosh it's amazing what you can learn from a squash plant!

Galatians 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit [the result of His presence within us] is love [unselfish concern for others], joy, [inner] peace, patience [not the ability to wait, but how we act while waiting], kindness, goodness, faithfulness,23 gentleness, self-control. Against such things there is no law.
