On the farm we had an old barn with all kinds of little treasures inside. I was always afraid to go up into the second story of the barn afraid I would fall through the floor.
After cleaning out the first floor preparing the old barn to be taken down and burned...our demolition guy decided he would go up in the loft and get an old plow that had been hanging in there for 'who knows' how long. I had no clue he was going to venture across that upper loft... so what a surprise to drive up and see that old worn horse-drawn plow laying beside the road. Wow! What a treasure...a keeper for sure! The plow looks like the one in the photo above.
I love old antiques, it's like they have their own story to tell. I can only imagine all the hard work, sweat, and expectation of a plenteous crop as the field was plowed by the farmer. Sometimes, I wish we could go back in time to experience a slower paced life. I've heard old-timers refer to those days as "The good ole days." I'm not sure I would completely agree due to the hard work and manual labor involved.
With autumn at hand many farmers put the plow to the field. There are many reasons why but the one reason that stands out to me is--preparation for next years crop!
That old plow definitely spoke to me (not literally but figuratively) serving as a symbol to me that I should be seeking a harvest. One might say, "A harvest?" Yes, a "Spiritual" harvest. That plow represents hard work, I need to be willing to labor for the things that have eternal value.
Matthew 9:37-38 KJV "Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few; 38 Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest."
Proverbs 20:4 KJV
4 "The sluggard will not plow by reason of the cold; therefore shall he beg in harvest, and have nothing."
