Mr. Woolly

Okay be honest, does anyone else dodge the woolly worms on the road? My eyesight isn't the greatest yet I can spot a woolly worm a good distance away. In my mind I'm planning my strategy...do I need to swerve left or right or straddle the little fella!

After I've made my move to avoid the 13 ring of fuzz... I glance in my sideview mirror to see if he made it. Sometimes he is rolling down the road, other times he isn't fazed he continues on his journey as if he has a mission to fulfill. He does!

Most folk here in my "neck of the woods" know all about the woolly worm being able to predict the weather. Yep, that's right! We have a winter weather predictor called the woolly worm. Lol. Mr. Woolly has 13 rings and each ring represents one week in winter. The dark bands represent the harsh weeks and the red bands represent more mild weather. Looking at my survivor (that I straddled) I'm thinking it might be a mild winter. I sure hope so! The first few weeks of winter prediction could be cold and snowy; however, from that point on "hello" mild weather! I'll take it.

We have a woolly worm festival located near us. You can choose a woolly worm and participate in the fun. Folks come from all over to venture in the fun and excitement...twenty-five worms race up a string, on the second day after numerous races a winner is declared.

The winning Mr. Woolly predicts the official winter forecast.

Believe it or not....woolly worm bands are 85% percent accurate. Wow!

What is the spiritual application? My goal is to always being moving forward. That woolly worm was on a mission to get where he was going. As a Christian, I am called to be a doer of the word... not hearer of the word only. I can't work my way into heaven however, by doing the word I'm doing what it teaches me to do. The word teaches me, "Love they neighbor as thyself." Therefore, if I love my neighbor as I should I am doing the word, I'm not just a hearer.

Courage is an attribute that requires me to face my fears, and uncertainties. Courage asks me to do things that I don't always want to do. Courage is when I choose to cross the road or (that bridge) when I come to it...even in the midst of obstacles along the way.

2 Timothy 1:7 "For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind."

Therefore, I will continue on my journey like the woolly worm (and) he did make it to the other side!

Proverbs 30:24-25 KJV

24 "There be four things which are little upon the earth, but they are exceeding wise:" 25 "The ants are a people not strong, yet they prepare their meat in the summer;"

1 Corinthians 1:27 KJV

27 "But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;"
